A New Family Discount Store Comes to the LBK
The owners chose Lubbock after living abroad and on the West Coast
New Lubbockites Yair and Shama Ezer hit the ground running. Although the couple has only lived here about 6 months, they just celebrated the grand opening of their business, The Annor Family Discount Store, which is located at 2541 34th St, just off University.
Yair and Shama are originally from Israel, but made it to Lubbock via Oregon, where they also ran a previous incarnation of “Annor”. Shama told us she originally conceived of the store because she wanted “to make sure her kids had a future business” to build “generational wealth”.
Shama’s husband Yair told us that they love Lubbock, and really wanted to serve the community here by opening an affordable clothing and home goods store. Yair’s dream has long been to sell socks and leggings, because “people always need those things”.
And they really mean it when they say affordable. Annor features all kinds of name brand clothing for everyone in the family, and prices are generally one item for $8.00, or 5 items for $35.00.
They have also started carrying hair extension products at one for $6.00 or four for $20.00, which are prices “you can’t find anywhere”, according to Shama.
The family enlisted the help of Rabbi Zalman Braun of the Chabad Lubbock to bless the premises prior to fully opening the store. Rabbi Braun explained to the assembled crowd that he was about to place a Mezuzah at the entrance to the store.
The Mezuzah is a holy artifact consisting of a small scroll containing God’s name and verses from Deuteronomy 6:9 written in Hebrew by a qualified scribe according to very strict traditional requirements.
Believers think of the Muzuzah almost like a spiritual burglar alarm, but instead of being connected to the police, or the alarm company, it connects directly to God.
We found the placing of the Mezuzah to be a touching act of faith which reminded us of the fact that almost every one we know has at least one cross on or in their home and place of business.
We sensed the strength of the Ezer family’s faith in God and family the whole time we browsed and mingled with them at Annor Family Discount Store. We also snagged some socks, because, well, people do “always need those things!”.
It’s hard to resist the low prices on items in the store, and the family atmosphere makes it a pleasant place to browse and connect. When you get some time, stop by and check them out, and tell them The Focus LBK Show sent you!
