As Jesus once said: “Render unto Caesar”. So, first things first: Pay Your Taxes!
But also acknowledge that it’s shocking to have to pay taxes. I think the reason for that is because deep down we all know taxation is theft.
Think back to how you reacted when you got your first ever paycheck, and it wasn’t the amount that you agreed to work for. You were shocked because it felt like someone took something from you wrongly. Like some one stole something from you.
Every rational adult can understand that money taken by force or coercion is money that is stolen.
One person doesn’t have the right to steal from another person. Nor can one person vote to give other people the right to steal from another person. You can’t vote to give a right you don’t have.
If that’s correct, then it means we should hold government to the same standard to which we hold ourselves. I can’t take money by force or threat, so neither should the government be able to.
Is that a thought-crime?
