As you know, today is September 11, 2026; the 25th Anniversary of the September 11th Attacks. It is to some a somber reminder of the day everything changed in this country. The day they tore our freedoms down in pursuit of some phantom menace in the Middle East.
In our hearts, the date carries a much lighter significance as well. We launched this publication on September 11th 2023, and since then we’ve produced quality content at least twice a week. We chose that date not because of the attacks, but because that’s when T.J. Patterson and Eddie Richardson launched the original South West Digest Newspaper. We were greatly inspired by their example.
Speaking of “newspaper” you may have noticed a change in the production frequency of this publication. During the last few months our team was overcome by events. We were spread so thin from Juneteenth-to-mid-August that we were not able to publish much, if anything.
Franky, we’ve had to re-imagine what Focus LBK should be. We will continue to publish articles as we are able while we work things out, so keep an eye out for new articles and photos. Of course, we will not charge for any content going forward, at least until we figure out the new scheme.
And maybe not even then.
Perhaps Focus LBK should become more of a photo-based collage based recollection of Lubbock’s social scene. It’s largely that now, but we feel it needs to be refined in some way.
Check out our very first episode on the way out, but before you go, remember that The Roots Historic Arts Council is putting on a brand new concert series called Caviel’s Soundstage. We aim to make this a monthly, grown-folks kickback featuring cool vibes and ‘cold-blooded’ local musicians like The Hayley Burton Jazz Quintet.
We are over the moon to have Hayley and her crew for our inaugural performance, and hope to see you at the event. Tickets are limited, so you might have to hurry and grab yours when they are available. They will be $20 each, online and at the door.
Episode 1 of the The Focus:LBK Show
The sections may or may not occur on every show; we are still working the bugs out on that one. But, rest assured, we plan to keep the episodes phat. The first EP unfolds like this:
