Sights and Sounds from the 4th Annual Eastside Community Event
The temperature was an unseasonably warm 80 degrees as we pulled up to Mae Simmons. Although we have been enjoying the recent cold, and wished it would continue, the warm weather was perfect for the event of the season: The fourth Annual Eastside Community Event.
Event founder Scotty Scott told the assembled crowd that he started doing the Community Event simply because the community needed something that cast a positive, hopeful light on “Tha E”.
This year’s event featured dancers from local schools, Santa Claus, Pancho Clos, Homey Claus, plus Nana Claus, who read aloud a Christmas story for all those assembled.
There were food trucks in the parking lot, and the Lubbock Fire Department was on hand to give tours of their fire apparatus and to augment event safety.
Inside, there were many vendors with all kinds of irresistible goods for sale. Various local organizations were on hand to provide manpower, including the 100 Black Men of West Texas, The Women of the 100, and the Ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority incorporated.
Scotty Scott, his wife Lisa Scott and their team of volunteers put on a hugely successful event, giving out over 4600 toys to local children, as well as providing beanies, gloves and a really good time.
Please enjoy a recap video and selected photos from this uplifting event.
