Scotty Scott and wife Lisa Scott recently put on the 3rd Annual Eastside Community Event. The Focus LBK crew had the good fortune to be able to pull up and mix and mingle a bit.
There were plenty of vendors with unique and desirable things for sale, and there were also food trucks in the parking lot.
Almost everything at the event was free for participants, except for vendor and food truck items. The event was well planned and executed, with great attention to detail. For example, the Scotts had the foresight to work with Citibus to provide trolley service to transport attendees back and forth from the Parkway Bingo Hall to the event at Mae Simmons.
Speaking with Scotty Scott and his older brother Louie Scott, Jr., we learned that this event has essentially doubled in size each of the three years it has been held. They started out a few years ago handing out around 2000 gifts, but this year, they distributed over 8,000 toys to local children.
Of course, Santa Clause, Pancho Clos, Nana Claus and an army of Santa’s Helpers were on hand to help distribute the toys and keep the event on track and on time.
This was a stunning event put together by a small, grass roots team who are all motivated and dedicated to serving their friends and neighbors in the LBK. Take a look at the video to get a feel for just how well attended and enjoyable this wholesome event truly was.
